Source and target branches
Understand the checked-out branch, comparison target, and upstream counts.
MarkdownThe branch you are on
The source is the checked-out local branch. Select another local branch in the source selector to switch branches. Commits and incoming changes are applied to this branch.
The target is the branch selected for comparison. It can be local or remote. GitLode selects the configured upstream by default when one is available, then remembers your target separately for each source branch and repository.
Changing the target changes the comparison and transfer destination. It does not switch the checked-out branch.
History and transfer controls
History includes commits reachable from either the source or target. Outgoing markers identify commits found only on the source. Incoming markers identify commits found only on the target. Branch and tag badges show references at each commit.
For a remote target, the toolbar has Pull and Push. For a local target, it has Merge and no Push. Hold Option to use Rebase or Force Push. See Sync with another branch before using these actions.
Transfer controls are disabled when the repository cannot accept the action, including detached HEAD or pending recovery.
Sidebar counts
Sidebar ahead and behind counts compare against the configured upstream. An upstream is the branch configured in Git for tracking remote progress. It can differ from the toolbar target, so the sidebar and toolbar can show different counts.
Hover over a sidebar repository for its path, activity, last successful fetch, or error details. A repository without an upstream is identified there.
