Commit and amend changes

Choose files for a commit or change your last commit.

Markdown

Choose files for a commit

Select Working Changes at the top of history, or press Command+1. Check each file that you want to include. Clear a checkbox to unstage the file while keeping its working copy.

A mixed checkbox means that a file has both staged and unstaged changes. Click it to stage the remaining changes. GitLode stages whole files; line and hunk selection are not available.

Select files and press S to include or exclude them. Press Command+Shift+Return to stage every file that can be committed. Conflicted files must be resolved separately.

A spinner appears while Git updates a file's staging state. You can continue editing the message and selecting other files.

Create the commit

Enter a message, then click Commit or press Command+Return. The commit includes the staged changes. With Full Git Integration, Git runs your hooks and signs the commit as you configured it. In Basic mode, Git cannot run hooks or signing programs. If Git would run a hook for the commit, GitLode asks first: choose Install Full Git Integration…, Continue Without Hooks, or Cancel. See Full Git Integration.

If the commit fails, your draft remains available. Open Activity with Command+0 to inspect the error.

Amend the last commit

Select Amend last commit to load the previous message and its files. Stage any changes you want to add, or edit only the message. Confirm the amendment when prompted. Deselect Amend last commit to restore your earlier draft.

Amending replaces the last commit with a new commit. If you already pushed that commit, coordinate with anyone using the branch before you force push.

To recover a commit's staged files and message, use Undo Commit.
