Organize repositories
Open repositories, arrange groups, and reconnect moved folders.
MarkdownAdd repositories
Drag repository folders into the sidebar, or use the toolbar's plus menu to open, clone, or create a repository. You can select several folders in the open dialog. If you choose a folder inside a repository, GitLode adds the repository that contains it. To clone, enter a Git URL or local repository path, then choose a destination and name.
Choose File > Open Recent to reopen a repository. When folders have the same name, their parent paths appear in the menu.
After you open a repository, GitLode expands its sidebar group. If the selected row is outside the visible area, GitLode scrolls it into view. During background refreshes, the sidebar's scroll position and collapsed groups stay unchanged.
Existing linked worktrees can be opened as repositories. GitLode asks for access to a worktree's main repository, and to a submodule's superproject, if it cannot open them yet. You can also browse bare repository history, although working-file actions are restricted. GitLode has no dedicated worktree or submodule management interface.
Arrange the sidebar
Choose New Group from the plus menu, enter a name, and click Create. Drag repositories into the group or use Move to Group in a repository's shortcut menu. Drag to reorder repositories. You can rename, collapse, or remove groups. Removing a group leaves its repositories in the sidebar.
Give a repository a display alias through its shortcut menu or Repository Settings. An alias changes the name in GitLode; the folder name stays the same. Removing a repository from the sidebar leaves its files on disk.
Reconnect a moved folder
GitLode keeps access to every folder you add, across launches. It uses saved macOS bookmarks to locate repositories after a move. If the location cannot be resolved, choose Locate Repository and select the folder. Your alias, group, and saved draft remain associated with the repository.
If GitLode can no longer open a repository, the repository has a badge in the sidebar. Right-click it, choose Grant Access…, and choose its folder in the panel. See Folder access.
Right-click a repository to reveal it in Finder or open its settings. See Tips & tricks for the title bar's folder shortcuts.
