# Privacy

The macOS app has no telemetry. I use Plausible analytics on this website.

Solmyr LLC is responsible for GitLode and this privacy policy. I'm Bruno Moreira, and I run the company on my own.

## No telemetry in the app

The GitLode macOS app contains no analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking. It makes no network requests of its own unless you use Gravatar portraits.

## Data stays on your Mac

Repository locations, aliases, groups, drafts, window state, search indexes, the operation journal and recovery checkpoints are stored locally in your user account. Search indexes live in the cache directory; the journal is kept separately so clearing caches doesn't remove undo history.

## Network activity is whatever Git does

Git performs fetch, pull and push, and when it does, it connects only to your remotes. In Basic mode, that's Apple's Git inside the App Sandbox. With Full Git Integration, it's your own Git with your own credentials. GitLode does not modify those requests, and does not read your passwords or keys. With Full Git Integration, your hooks and signing programs run too, and GitLode does not control any connections they make.

## Folders and the helper script

GitLode can open only the folders you choose. If you give it access to your home folder, Git uses that access to read your Git configuration and SSH settings. If you install Full Git Integration, GitLode puts one script in `~/Library/Application Scripts/com.pocketarc.GitLode`. The script starts Git and sends nothing anywhere on its own. So that Git can find your tools, the script also runs your login shell and copies the environment variables that your shell exports into a file in GitLode's folder in `~/Library/Containers`. Only your account can read the file, and it stays on your Mac. If your shell exports secrets, such as access tokens, the file contains them. When you remove Full Git Integration in Settings, GitLode deletes the script and the file. If you delete the script yourself, GitLode deletes the file the next time you open GitLode.

## Author portraits

If you have Gravatar portraits enabled in Settings, GitLode will send a SHA-256 hash of each commit author's email address to gravatar.com to fetch an image. The request is made without cookies or stored credentials, and responses are cached locally.

## Purchases

GitLode is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple processes the payment and does not pass on personal information about buyers. GitLode's App Privacy answer on the App Store is Data Not Collected.

## Website analytics

I use [Plausible Analytics](https://plausible.io) to count visits on gitlode.com. Plausible sets no cookies and doesn't collect personal data. See [Plausible's data policy](https://plausible.io/data-policy) for details.

## Newsletter

If you subscribe, Buttondown will store your email address and send the newsletters. That email address is not used for anything else and is never shared. Unsubscribing is the usual - there's a link in the newsletter you can use.
